06/2018 Earthmoving works OpenIJ

In IJmuiden, the Netherlands, the largest sea lock in the world – even larger than that of the Panama Canal and the Suez Canal – is being built. The OpenIJ project, as this grand and ambitious undertaking is called, is a Joint Venture of Boskalis, Van Oord and several other parties. What makes it even more impressive, is that all operations take place on a relatively small surface area to prevent from obstructing shipping and road traffic at any time. Van Tunen is proud of its modest contributions to this prestigious project, with several dumpers carrying bulk material at the IJmuiden locks and the excavation of a construction pit for the new floodgate to approximately minus 14.5 meters with our CAT390 triple boom.
