05/2016 Tunnelexcavation -Berlin DE

Following the initial underwater excavation Van Tunen was contracted gain in April 2016 for the next concrete construction pit section at the highway/tunnel project in Berlin, this time working for the main contractor being a joint venture between HochTief and Max Bögl.

In this section there was an extra technical challenge consisting of a bridge overlaying the pit which interfered with a substantial part of the underwater excavation. Another one of our special hydraulic excavators, a brand new Cat 390 F add-blue long reach, was mobilized again equipped with buckets, clamshells and clamshell extenders to be able to excavate / dredge to a depth
of -18 m. After installation on the same modular spud pontoon our operators started the underwater excavation according to a carefully planned excavation schedule to ensure the material underneath the bridge section could be removed completely without interference or damage to the bridge.

Work was completed as planned and the excavator was demobilised in July 2016 to our yard in Beverwijk and is now available for the next project!!
